Space of cyclic change
Pavlíčková, Tereza ; Jakšík, Petr (referee) ; Rozwalka, Szymon (advisor)
The search for the ideal function and form in response to the cyclical variability of the place offers several possibilities, but each approach to the issue is different. Throughout my work, I have drawn on-site analysis and the study of theatre and concert halls. Last but not least, I have been studying the literature of Rem Koolhaas- Junkspace and the texts of Maxim Gorka, thanks to which I have been able to create a semi-open raster structure and gain a new perspective on the matter and its mutability.
Music as a public space - New concept of Brno Philharmonic
Macurová, Lenka ; Čapák, Bořivoj (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
An assignment of diploma thesis was to design a concert hall for Brno Philharmonic. Ten years ago, an architectural competition was held to design Janáček cultural centre on a plot between the streets Veselá and Besední. The winning project was simplified and divided into two parts (underground parking and concert hall). My proposal is based on the planned parking, which finally begins to build in 2015. Shape of the house respects the surrounding buildings. My aim was create the building, which would be functional, urban, beautiful and more economical than the winning project.
Music as a public space - New concept of Brno Philharmonic
Šiška, Jaroslav ; Šupler, Libor (referee) ; Wahla, Ivan (advisor)
Topic of proposal is to complete block of houses on the edge of historical centre. The centre continues in Brno’s ring road. Blocks are characteristic of having features like: ledge, commercial ground floor, following street line, ridge of roof, frontage face with regular rhythm of windows and same height of ledges on each floor. All of this determines rules of completion of the block. Could concert hall be as significant in the organism of the city that it doesn't have to follow mentioned rules? Following of features appearing in surrounding could stand for negative perception of expression of concert hall. There has to be effort not to create just typical administrative building in which concert hall is built in.

Concert-Hall Brno
Špondrová, Hana ; Šrubař, Pavel (referee) ; Odvárka, Antonín (advisor)
This study addresses the design of a new cultural center in the Moravian Square – a polyfunctional object with a great concert hall, a small multifunctional hall with operating and technical facilities, parking, customer services for visitors, and areas for employees and musicians. Also, a restaurant & cafe is a part of this proposed project. New space replaces the unsatisfactory conditions of the current residence of Brno Filharmony in Besední dům – too small, unsatisfactory acoustics, and complicated operation. The cultural center, also, serves as a congress center that is currently missing in Brno - a city of trade fairs and exhibitions. The proposition respects the existing character of the park. The capacity of the new proposed design is from three-quarters underground, and therefore makes a way (nebo „space“) for greenery and pedestrians. The designed object consists of one ground and two underground levels. It has a simple shape with a greenery roof, and is incorporated into the existing spaces of the square. The distinctive element of the design is an open outside atrium in the first underground level. The facase is covered with boards (nebo „panels“) made out of Corian® material in a white shade of Glacier White in contrast to glass windows. The supporting construction is designed from monolithic iron concrete.
Music as a public space - New concept of Brno Philharmonic
Truhlářová, Jana ; Čapák, Bořivoj (referee) ; Wahla, Ivan (advisor)
The locality is situated on the Veselá street in the historic centre near to Besední dům – the main seat of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra. The site adjacent to the unfinished housing estates was chosen in a competition authority in 2003 primarily thanks to the position next to Besední dům. I tried to create a variant solution which could offer insight into the issue. The aim was to design a functional, operationally and economically less demanding object where the hall has excellent acoustics for classical orchestral music with a capacity of about 1000 visitors.
Music as a public space - New concept of Brno Philharmonic
Veselý, Adam ; Vágner, Lukáš (referee) ; Rusín, Tomáš (advisor)
Entering this thesis was to design a building for the Brno Philharmonic. Brno Philharmonic is still housed in the Fellowship House, which for this purpose does not. Place for the design of the new building of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra was chosen plot where the current parking lot, which is close to the Guildhall. In 1992 he founded the Association for the construction of a concert hall, which has since been seeking to build Janáček Cultural Centre. Concert hall with excellent acoustics, which is missing in Brno. The first attempt was in 1989, when it was announced architectural competition for a new building project was just prior to the commencement of construction works dropped. In 2003, the Statutory City of Brno announces an urban-architectural competition for the design of the building Janáček Cultural Centre, whose subject was the urban design of the entire area between the streets Besední, cheerful and Hotel International. Entering the competition was also the draft annex of the hotel International. The reasons for choosing this property was the strongest ties to the Meeting House., Position in the city center in a neighborhood with other major institutions, well-connected to public transport, the opportunity to realize the capacity underground parking. This year were started construction work on this place that has become a new building. The overall implementation takes place in two stages. In the first phase are carried out underground three underground floors used for parking. In the second phase confronts Janáček Cultural Centre. This competition for JKC winning studio M1. In the first round of the competition envisaged the demolition substation at the International Hotel and expanding the plot. In the second round it was only a plot parking spot without significant interference with the surrounding space. This version is valid to this day.
Music as a public space - New concept of Brno Philharmonic
Kamená, Markéta ; Mutina, Petr (referee) ; Wahla, Ivan (advisor)
The Philharmonic building is designed as a circular central building located in the center of an elliptical water ring. The house moderately expands to upward by an angle of ten degrees. This compositional princip implicitly refers to the morphology of ancient temples, but his reasoning is mostly functional. The water ring has a maximal size considering the size of the park, in spite of it is a significant limit for dimensions of the object. First floor therefore builds up the smallest possible surface area of the ring and each higher floor is increased according to the need of the philharmonic, especially so the floor area suffises to the big amount of dressing rooms and rehearsal. The total cubic capacity of the object is almost minimalist, a concert hall and other necessary equipment is designed in the lower limit of the minimum dimensions. The philharmonic is opened to the neighborhood around the perimeter of all floors, behind the facade common life takes place, this fact makes the building visually interesting. In the daylight, when traffic is muted, it gives the impression of the stoic temple, but in the evening it "coming to life". Architectural expression is subordinated to this princip. The facade is designed from structural glazing, to achieve the greatest possible effect of transparency. The abstract shaping without natural scale of the window or other articulated architectural elements is chosen with respect to the principle philharmonic as a temple of music, not primarily "only" public building. Requirements for the indoor climate indicate a need of the interior shading. In accordance with previous principles the shading elements are chosen abstractly as continuous vertical wooden beams starting at different height with respect to public space inside of the building.
